 This
comfortable hotel is only two or three
minutes walk from Stornoway town centre, where you'll find a selection
of independently owned shops, as well as a sprinkling of
multiples.
Although not particularly large by mainland
standards (69 rooms), the Caladh Inn is the largest hotel in the Outer
Hebrides and is frequently praised by guests for the friendly,
hospitable service provided by its staff.
Dinner and lunch in Eleven, the
hotel's bright, modern bar restaurant, is popular with local
residents, as well as hotel guests. You can
enjoy carvery/buffet style meals and choices from an
impressive a la carte menu. In particular, Chef's Seafood
Special is a treat worth exploring.
With Stornoway's airport being just 10
minutes
drive, this is an excellent choice of hotel for Flydrive visitors.
Comprehensive leisure facilities, including
swimming pool are available directly opposite the hotel, at the Lewis
Sports Centre. (Information link)
A good starting point for a circular tour of
Lewis by car, the hotel is also within easy walk of a number of
fascinating explorations within Stornoway itself. These
include walks through the Castle Grounds and and the gorge-like valley
of the River Creed, a fine museum, which portrays the development of
the Hebridean population, and excellent arts centre (An Lanntair) and
the Lewis Loom Centre, where the Harris Tweed industry is documented
and
you can buy cloth and finished Harris Tweed products.

Suggestion
Drive
the length of the road to Tolsta (Tolstadh), stopping off at the
various sandy beaches you will see along the way. On reaching
Tolsta, continue through the village onto a single track road that
leads to Traigh Mhor ('the big beach') - more than a mile of wonderful
sandy strand, then visit Traigh Ghearadha, further around the headland.
