The design of this
exciting beach-front
hotel demonstrates
many of the best elements of 1970s styling, with high sloping ceilings
and
public rooms of varied sizes on varying levels. More recently, a
programme of
refurbishment has introduced new colour palettes, furnishings and
decoration
which complement the original designs.
Seated by one of the huge windows in one of
the lounges, or
in the restaurant, you’re so close to the sand and the ocean,
that your
relationship with the elements is almost as if outdoors. Most of the
ensuite
bedrooms also overlook Halaman Bay.
The restaurant specialises in fresh local
seafood, Barra
beef and lamb, with an extensive selection of fine wines from around
the world
being offered.
This location is very convenient for walks
or cycle rides
along the west coast of Barra, enjoying the sights of shell-sand
beaches, rocky
cliffs and flower strewn machair. In this area, looking towards the
island’s
interior, the green pastures give way to mountainous hills in an almost
alpine
manner, even though the highest point (Heaval) is only 383
metres.
Castlebay and the Oban ferry is around two
miles
distant, while the airport and Eriskay ferry are around eight miles
away (about
15 minutes by car).
