The
Polochar Inn stands in a
stunning position at the south west tip of South Uist.
On the edge of the coastal machair, it's close to a magnificent sandy
beach and offers panoramic views of Eriskay and
Barra.
Ideally located for exploring the southern
end of
the Uists, the Polochar is only a few minutes drive from the
causeway to Eriskay and the ferry to Barra. Eriskay is a
haven
for bird watching, fishermen, hill walkers, archaeologists, cyclists
(who need a sense of humour to climb the short sharp hill to the ferry)
and those who just like to sit and look.
The inn has been well modernised by its
owners,
offering luxurious bedrooms and residents' facilities, while retaining
its old character. It has a good reputation for food, real
ale,
and friendly service.
You can relax in leather armchairs in the
residents' sitting room, beside the fire in the lounge bar, or enjoy
local company in the public bar, which as just as smart as the other
areas.
Or, on a mild summer evening, sit outside at
the
water's edge, listening to the corncrakes calling from the tall
vegetation in neighbouring crofts. There's every chance of
seeing
otters and bottlenose dolphins here.

Suggestion
From the Polochar Inn, walk along the coast and beaches towards the
causeway to Eriskay, as there are few places to park a car along this
stretch of road. .
