Sorrel Cottage is an old converted croft
house retaining many of its original features. There are Golden Eagles
on the hill range behind the house.
This is a particularly convenient stopping off point for the
Leverburgh/Berneray ferry.
All guest bedrooms have en-suite facilities
and guests are encouraged to use the sitting room provided - note that
there is no TV. Make complimentary tea or coffee in the
dining room at any time, then socialise with fellow guests.
For active visitors, cycle hire is available to explore the surrounding
area, where you'll find plenty of quiet roads and fantastic views to be
enjoyed. If you're not crossing to the more southerly islands
by car, a bike (which travels free on the ferry) is an excellent way to
visit the wonderful island of Berneray.
Evening meals are available locally at the
Anchorage Restaurant (beside the ferry slipway about 2 miles away),
also at Rodel and Tarbert.
The ferry port of Stornoway is about 90
minutes drive and Leverburgh about 5 minutes.
Take
a circular trip around south Harris, first viewing the shell-sand
beaches that line the west-coast route of the 'main' road to Tarbert.
Return down the east coast, along the Golden Road, which
meanders past little rocky inlets and settlements - a clear day
affords spectacular views of Skye. For added
interest, make this excursion by the bus which passes Sorrel Cottage -
change at Tarbert onto a small bus to make the east coastal
