Subject to availability, it's also possible to provide the Island Experience holiday or a single centre holiday,  using one of our holiday hire cars - normally used for flydrive holidays.  In this case, you would arrive in the Outer Hebrides as a foot passenger on the ferry.  Prices will vary, so please ask for a quote.  You can find more information about our cars on the flydrive page.

ISLAND EXPERIENCE - 5 NIGHTS IN THE WESTERN ISLES FROM £299

- a 5 night classic end to end Scottish island hopping tour of the Outer Hebrides (Western Isles), with relaxing ferry cruises.

FROM ULLAPOOL OR OBAN, VISITING LEWIS, HARRIS, BERNERAY, NORTH UIST, BENBECULA, SOUTH UIST, ERISKAY AND BARRA

Starting from ULLAPOOL (from Oban, the route is reversed), you’ll sail with Calmac ferries across the Minch to Stornoway, any day except Sunday, departing around 1030 or 1715, arriving in Stornoway about 2hrs 45 mins later.

After two or three days exploring Lewis and Harris from your first hotel, guest house  or bed and breakfast accommodation, before taking the ferry from Leverburgh (Harris) to Berneray, where the machair, beaches and village are worth exploring. Then take the causeway to North Uist, and join the scenic west coast road.  

Meander south over more causeways, through Benbecula and South Uist, picking out the activities, historic features or sights that interest you, until you reach the final causeway to Eriskay.  

Berneray to Eriskay is only a three hour journey, but there’s more than enough to make a couple of night’s stay well worthwhile.  Finally, take the with Calmac ferry from Eriskay to the tiny island of Barra, for a day or two soaking up the scenery and tranquillity.  

Your ferry journey back form the Western Isles, across the Minch, departs from Castlebay (Barra) and arrives at the mainland port of Oban. 

HEBRIDEAN HIGHLIGHTS - 6 NIGHTS IN THE WESTERN ISLES FROM £389

STARTING FROM ULLAPOOL, (from Mallaig or Kyle of Lochalsh, reverse the route) you’ll sail with Calmac across the Minch to Stornoway, any day except Sunday, departing around 1030 or 1715, arriving in Stornoway about 2hrs 45 mins later. After two or three days exploring Lewis and Harris, join the Calmac car ferry from Leverburgh (Harris) to Berneray and explore the machair, beaches and village.

THE HEBRIDEAN TRIANGLE - 5 NIGHTS IN THE WESTERN ISLES FROM £309

- a 5 night Outer Hebrides island hopping holiday with short sea crossings, majestic mountains and beautiful beaches.

FROM MALLAIG OR KYLE OF LOCHALSH, VISITING LEWIS, HARRIS, BERNERAY, NORTH UIST, BENBECULA, SOUTH UIST AND ERISKAY - BARRA AND VATERSAY MAY BE ADDED, IF YOU WISH

STARTING FROM MALLAIG, (from Kyle of Lochalsh, the route is reversed) a 25 minute journey with Caledoniain Macbrayne ferries (Sundays included) brings you to Armadale, near the southern tip of Skye.  

Staying at Portree, the island’s capital, you’ll find plenty to keep you occupied for at least two days.  

From Skye, a 1 hr 40 mins ferry service takes you to Tarbert, on Harris (not Sundays).  Explore Lewis and Harris for a day or two, then take a ferry from Leverburgh (Harris) to Berneray.

After an hour or two on Berneray, take the North Uist scenic coast road, past idyllic shell sand beaches and the nature reserve. Then comes Benbecula, with even more beaches, into the green pastures of South Uist and finally over the causeway to tiny Eriskay. 

From Berneray to Eriskay is barely three hour’s drive, but it’s well worth at least a one or two night stop, before returning to Skye on the ferry from Lochmaddy(including Sundays). 

Perhaps a further night on Skye, before departing the island via the toll-free bridge.

FROM MALLAIG OR OBAN, VISITING SKYE, LEWIS, HARRIS, BERNERAY, NORTH UIST, BENBECULA, SOUTH UIST, ERISKAY, BARRA AND VATERSAY 

STARTING FROM MALLAIG, (from Oban, the route is reversed) take the Caledoniain Macbrayne ferry to Armadale, on Skye, to spend a day or so exploring, while staying at Portree – the island’s capital.  Then, board your ferry from Uig, crossing to Tarbert on Harris (no Sunday sailings).  

Enjoy a couple of days touring Lewis and Harris, then take a ferry from Leverburgh (Harris) to the enchanting Isle of Berneray, which deserves a few hours investigation. 

A short causeway leads to North Uist and the scenic circular road, passing coastal villages, inlets, beaches and the nature reserve.  

Benbecula offers more sandy beaches before you reach South Uist, then one final causeway takes you to Eriskay. 

Spend a night or two on these isles before moving south to Barra. 

From Eriskay, a short crossing takes you to Barra, where you could spend a day or two soaking up the scenery and tranquillity, also visiting Vatersay, before your ferry returns to the mainland port of Oban.

GREAT HEBRIDEAN EXPEDITION - 8 NIGHTS IN THE WESTERN ISLES FROM £529

- an ultimate 8 night holiday for some serious Outer Hebrides island hopping.

FROM ULLAPOOL OR OBAN, VISITING SKYE, LEWIS, HARRIS, BERNERAY, NORTH UIST, BENBECULA, SOUTH UIST, ERISKAY, BARRA AND VATERSAY.

From Castlebay, Barra’s capital, you return on your final Calmac ferry to Oban on the mainland (5 hours), hopefully enjoying stunning views of Mull, Coll and Tiree.

We suggest a relaxed, eight night itinerary - other durations are available.

Travel here by the method most convenient to you, then use our modern hybrid touring bikes (including pannier bags and helmet).

Electric assisted bikes may be booked at a supplement of £18 per day. 

You might travel by car or train to Oban (secure parking), then join the scenic ferry route to Barra. Return via the Stornoway - Ullapool ferry, or use public transport back to South Uist for an Oban ferry. 

Or, fly from Glasgow to Stornoway or the beach airport at Barra, returning directly from your finishing point; we can book flights if required (add £110 low season, £160 main season). 

We'll offer you a choice of sensible itineraries, based on experience gained by our own staff who have enjoyed 'cycle hopping' here. See overleaf and our web site for more information.  

Bookings not advised outside of April-September - while we experience some wonderful days from October to March that are perfect for cycling, the chance of eight in a row is rather less likely.
