Hebridean Hopscotch Holidays

Golf holidays in the Western Isles

Make your travel choice from the Island Experience or the Island Hopper Flydrive and play each of the five courses in the Outer Hebrides.

Or book the Great Hebridean Expedition and include a visit to Skye Golf Club in addition to those listed below.  Green fees mostly range from £10 to £25 for each course – note that fees will change from time to time – if the price is important to you, please check the web or call the clubs for latest fees.

Six golf course challenges in the Hebrides

DAY 1: Barra Golf Club – is the most Westerly golf course in the United Kingdom. It is exceptionally attractive with stunning views out over the Atlantic. The 9 hole course is 2396 yards and has elevated links with natural contours.

DAY 2: Askernish Golf Club – possibly the friendliest in the world and described on the BBC’s Coast programme as, “The Holy Grail of Golf Courses” – 18 tees on a legendary, 1891, Old Tom Morris course, alongside the Atlantic ocean.

If there’s one course every golfer should play, to understand the game’s history, then this is it.

The course has been restored since 2007 and you can now play golf almost the way it might have been 100 years ago.  Some challenging holes and just £15 for 6 holes or £40 for 18, May-Sept. Winter rate £25 per day – £175 buys a year’s country membership.  Open seven days a week and club hire is usually available at reasonable cost. Handicap certificate not required, no need to book, simply pay in the clubhouse and play.  A good idea to phone 07900 387167 beforehand to check that you won’t be arriving in the middle of a competition or a group visit.

DAY 4: Harris Golf Club – perhaps the most stunning location of all, above the sands of Scarista.  9 holes. Closed Sundays.   (Life membership £350)

DAY 5: Stornoway Golf Club – a rolling parkland course, alongside Lews Castle. Closed Sundays. 18 holes.

SKYE GOLF CLUB – Sconser is a seaside 9 hole golf course with 15 tees providing a different approach and length second time around giving an 18 hole feel to the layout.

While the courses are generally not as luxuriant as those on the mainland, there are great challenges to face and the scenery is amazing.

Please note that all green fees quoted are collated from web sites and subject to revision by the clubs.  They are additional to the holiday cost and should be paid when you arrive at the club.

Some clubs operate an honesty box system.

You can also take the holiday in the reverse direction.  If travelling by air, based on 2019 rates, your golf clubs may incur an additional charge of £10, when you check in at Glasgow for your island flight. The amount may also be chargeable on your return flight.  It is essential to pre-advise Loganair if you wish to carry golf-clubs, as baggage space on their small aircraft is limited.

Call and ask our advisor for Golf Packages – without obligation, we’ll work out the most suitable accommodation and travel itinerary for your chosen arrival date and give you a price quotation.

*Flights are operated by Loganair.

** Air fare prices vary, according to seat availability, date of travel and time of booking.  To get the best deals, you need to book early.
