Broad Bay House opened in 2008 and is just one of a handful in Scotland to achieve the VisitScotland 5 star “Gold” Guest House Award – it is maintaining its reputation for being one of the finest places to stay in the Hebrides.

Contemporary comfort at Broad Bay House, Isle of Lewis

On a clear day, the Scottish highlands can be seen across the Minch. Inside there are four spacious luxury en-suite bedrooms, including one for the less mobile visitor (category 1 accessible).  The location itself is worth the 5 star rating, just a few miles north of Stornoway, and adjacent to a sweeping sandy beach with direct access from the house to the shore.

All bedrooms are equipped with home cinema system or Blu-ray player, Samsung HD Smart flat screen TV and a connection for your iPod. Outside each bedroom is a personal decking area. The house is furnished in solid oak, with a restful contemporary decor and a great collection of local original artwork.

Other free guest facilities include wireless and wired internet access, guest laundry and guest library (with PC/printer, local maps and books and a good CD/DVD collection). The house is fully licensed, and has a wide ranging and interesting wine and malt whisky list.

Accommodation

Broad Bay House is a purpose built luxury guest house.  Every room is thus designed and furnished to give you comfort and relaxation, with every possible convenience.  If there’s something you need, please ask.

A good night’s sleep is assured with high levels of soundproofing, luxury mattresses, fine Egyptian cotton bedlinen and goosedown duvets. For those with allergies synthetic duvets and pillows are available on request. All rooms are provided with a complimentary welcome tray with a Nespresso machine, teas, cafetiere coffee, biscuits, crisps, water, snack bars and even a postcard to send home

Food and drink

Broad Bay House received one of the first VisitScotland “Taste our Best” food awards in 2013 for their use of the great Outer Hebrides local produce, which complements a fourth prestigious Silver award by Eat Scotland. We pride ourselves on high quality food, based on local ingredients. We source fresh produce  from the islands whenever possible and we make our own bread.

Light supper platters are available in the evenings for those who don’t want to have a full meal, or don’t want to head out for the evening. The platters, either locally smoked salmon, or meat and cheese, are for two people and should be requested in the morning of the day they are required.

We will do our best to accommodate any food preferences, intolerances or allergies providing you advise us well in advance, although we are unable to guarantee that our food is 100% nut free.

Convenient for town and touring

There’s plenty of free off-road parking for guests and Broad Bay House is only a few minutes drive from the island’s ‘capital town’ of Stornoway, where you will find quality shopping at independently owned stores, plus just a few national names.

If you want a change from the beach at the end of the garden, the three beaches at Tolsta, just 6 miles away, offer a variety of opportunities to walk, surf or simply sit and look, while the entire island may be easily accessed from Broad Bay House.
