Family owned for over 100 years, Harris Hotel offers traditional island hospitality, superb food and a relaxing atmosphere.
Harris Hotel offers a little elegance of times gone by
Tarbert’s Harris Hotel was built in 1865 and has been in the care of successive generations of the same family since 1903.
Over the years, the hotel has been the subject of numerous renovations and now offers a mix of relaxing accommodation in both modern and more traditional styles. Staying at the Harris Hotel, you’ll enjoy some of the elegance of times gone by, as well as more modern values of comfort and service.
There’s a choice of relaxing spaces, including spacious sun lounges that front onto a large, attractive garden. The bar is known for the extensive range of malt whiskies.
Tarbert’s small shops, bank, ferry terminal and bus stops are all within a short walk of the Harris Hotel; the beaches of the west Harris coast are around fifteen minutes drive and the north Harris hills are about four miles to the north.
The Harris Hotel has its own small library, health and beauty salon.
One of the hotel’s most celebrated visitors, the novelist J. M. Barrie visited the hotel during the 1920s. His initials, which he himself etched, could be seen in the dining room window until recently when the window was replaced – they’re now on display at reception.
Accommodation at the Harris Hotel
Many of the original bedrooms rooms are spacious and front facing, while some of the more modern accommodation is smaller but with views towards the sea. All have the en-suite facilities you would expect, as well as TV and hospitality tray.
Making holidays extra special in the Hebrides, Select Collection rooms are accommodation that we have chosen for their individuality.
Rooms are available in price groups 3 and 4, plus Select Collection.
Food and Drink
A full Scottish breakfast is included for Hebridean Hopscotch Holidays’ clients
The Harris Hotel has a great reputation for its food. Excellent menus include a good selection of fresh local food and seafood specialities, served in surroundings that still retain the essential character of the hotel.
Under the same ownership, the Isle of Harris Inn next door serves bar snacks, should you have a fancy for something lighter.
“This is an excellent hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. The food was excellent. The dinner menu included fish, meat and chicken dishes while the breakfast was very flexible, including kippers, traditional breakfasts and serials. The hotel is ideally situated for exploring Harris and Lewis.” – A TripAdvisor reviewer.
