Heathbank Hotel – experience traditional hospitality in an historic setting

Only the bell tower gives a clue to the origins of the Heathbank Hotel, which was built as church or mission house in the mid 1800s.  In 1974 it was opened as a hotel and Northbay enjoyed its first licensed premises since the closing of the old inn decades before.

In 1948, some of the cast of the classic film, Whisky Galore stayed at the Heathbank Hotel and you’ll see original bottles ‘rescued’ from the SS Politician displayed here.

Today, the building houses a small hotel with accommodation that has been completely renovated to an exceptional standard.

The Heathbank Hotel is situated on the edge of an attractive village, around five minutes’ drive from the airport or the ferry to Eriskay and about fifteen minutes from Castlebay.

Accommodation at the Heathbank Hotel

Each of the en-suite bedrooms has been designed with care, using quality fabrics, wood finishes and stainless steel fittings.  Every room has Sky TV, a radio alarm clock and hospitality tray.   Prints by John Lowrie Morrison (Jolomo), one of Scotland’s best loved contemporary artists, complete the room décor.


N.B. Food service ends before arrivals off late Oban ferries – it is recommended to dine on the ferry.

Evening meals may be taken in the residents’ dining room, or in the Heathbank Hotel’s modern bar lounge, an attractive room where you can enjoy a drink or speciality coffee, while socialising with your hosts, other guests and villagers.

The dinner menu has plenty of choice and includes fresh local seafood.
