A modern property, conveniently situated on the peaceful little Island of Scalpay, in the Scottish Western Isles.

New Haven – Scalpay bed and breakfast with delightful harbour views

This family owned bed and breakfast is around 5 miles from Tarbert, the ‘capital’ of the Isle of Harris.  Scalpay is a separate island, but has an Isle of Harris postal address and is accessed by a bridge.  It’s a place with plenty of character and interesting walks.

There’s a good spirit of community and enterprise in Scalpay and there’s a bit more going on than you might expect for such a small settlement.  A community shop provides for groceries and urgent needs and a tearoom/bistro is on the same site.

Being close to Tarbert, this B and B is easy to get to as a stopover and also convenient for a few days stay to explore both North and South Harris.

A full Scottish breakfast is included and served in the dining room.  From the lounge at New Haven you can take in the views of the harbour and a few fishing boats as they unload. Birdwatchers will enjoy identifying the many species that are common in the area.

Television and video are provided in the lounge (in addition to TV in guest bedrooms) and an open fire is available in colder months.

Location

The Google maps at the links on the right of this page are useful bur not totally clear.  Only just after entering the village, New Haven is tucked away down a little lane on the right, overlooking the harbour (there is a roadside sign for the property).  Memorise the photo of the roof and you shouldn’t go wrong!

Accommodation

New Haven offers three modern and tastefully decorated and furnished double bedrooms, with en-suite shower or bathroom facilities. Rooms are equipped with tea and coffee making trays and also televisions.

Hairdryers and ironing facilities are available upon request.

Dining

For evening meals, we suggest you visit the nearby North Harbour Bistro & Tearoom behind the community shop, where excellent food is served at good value prices.

“This was a great find. Mairi so helpful. The rooms are very clean, lovely to stay in. Plenty of room. The cafe in Scalpay is walking distance and the best food. Need to remember to get cash before visiting Island, no card facilities for australian travellers.
I would recommend this B&B to any traveller. Great place to stay to explore both Harris and Lewis.
Thank you very much Mairi” – A and D – TripAdvisor members.
