Committed to hospitality excellence  –  the Royal Hotel is a comfortable, traditional hotel, where you can relax and enjoy Hebridean hospitality while on holiday to the Outer Hebrides, or to enjoy dining in either our Boatshed Restaurant or HS-1 Cafe-Bar.

The Royal Hotel – Stornoway’s most historic hotel

The aim of all the staff at the Royal Hotel is always to offer the special, warm hospitality for which our local people are famous – you’ll see it in the way we welcome and look after you throughout your entire stay in Stornoway.  The greatest strengths are in all of the staff – all committed to working hard to provide a truly enjoyable visit to Stornoway.

We aim to supply Royal Hotel harbour view rooms as the preferred accommodation for Hebridean Hopscotch guests.  All of these rooms are fitted with quality beds and fabrics and luxury toiletries are provided in the en-suite.

Sizes of guest and shower rooms vary from ‘compact’ to ‘huge’ – so please discuss this with our advisor when booking, if this is important to you.  Every Royal Hotel room has work and storage space, room service, plus free wi-fi throughout the hotel.

There is a small residents’ car park at the rear and on-street parking at the front of the hotel.

Dining at the Royal Hotel

The Royal Hotel enjoys a great reputation for its friendly, hospitable staff, excellent food and service. It was the first hotel in the Outer Hebrides to receive the Hospitality Assured award.

There are two eating places in the Royal Hotel, the Boatshed restaurant and HS-1 cafe-bar.  Both are popular with local residents  (always a good sign!) and offer you a wide choice. You’ll find creative dishes using fresh produce in season, quality meats and local seafood.

Convenient for town and touring

Only a hundred yards or so from Stornoway town centre, the historic Royal Hotel overlooks the marina and the green spaces of Lews Castle grounds.

“We loved this hotel as a base for exploring Harris and Lewis as it was so restful and comfortable after our long days of hiking and boating or driving. The bar restaurant was great at night for service and food and had a good atmosphere. Would highly recommend this hotel” – a TripAdvisor member.
